Malcolm B. Seawell has been recognized among Denver’s Top 100 Trial Lawyers and brings more than three decades of legal experience to his work with clients across Colorado. Born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, he earned degrees in Criminal Justice and Economics from American University in Washington, D.C., where he graduated with honors and was inducted into Alpha Phi Sigma, the National Criminal Justice Honor Society.
He went on to attend the University of Denver College of Law, earning his Juris Doctor in 1991. During law school, he received American Jurisprudence Awards in Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Appellate Advocacy, and Corporations. Upon graduation, he was recognized for outstanding academic achievement and inducted into the Order of Saint Ives.
Mr. Seawell began his legal career as a Deputy District Attorney in Colorado’s Eighteenth Judicial District, where he served from 1989 through 1996. In that role, he handled a wide range of criminal cases and developed trial experience that continues to inform his work today. Since entering private practice in 1996, he has focused on criminal defense and personal injury matters, representing individuals facing serious legal challenges.
He is admitted to practice in both Colorado state and federal courts and has tried more than 100 criminal cases as both a prosecutor and defense attorney. He also previously served as an assistant municipal judge for the towns of Parker and Castle Rock, Colorado.
In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Seawell has taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business, lecturing in the area of jurisprudence. He has also presented on topics related to criminal law and criminal procedure.
Mr. Seawell holds an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, reflecting peer recognition for professional excellence, legal knowledge, and ethical standards.
